Bespoke React frontend
for a headless WordPress
A leading UK marketing agency needed to modernise their web presence without losing the editorial flexibility their team relied on in WordPress. The answer: decouple the two entirely, keeping WordPress as the CMS while replacing the frontend with a statically exported Next.js application.
We built the GraphQL layer over the WordPress API — custom queries for each content type, each page template, each dynamic section — giving the Next.js application precisely the data it needed with none of the bloat of a standard REST response.
The site is very animated. We used manually key-framed SVG animations, custom Lottie files exported from Adobe After Effects, and CSS transitions to create a site with genuine personality — the kind that signals to prospective clients that this agency can deliver premium digital experiences.

GraphQL API Layer
Custom GraphQL queries built over the WordPress REST API — pulling precisely the data each page needed, with none of the overhead of over-fetching. Faster pages, cleaner code.

Static Next.js Export
A fully statically exported Next.js frontend — deployable to any CDN, with no server dependencies. Once built, the site serves at edge speed from anywhere in the world.

Animated TypeScript Components
A library of animated components — SVG animations hand-keyed in code, Lottie files exported from Adobe After Effects, and CSS transitions — giving the site the rich, dynamic feel the agency required.
Our Approach
Static speed. Dynamic content.
The choice of static export was deliberate and strategic. Once the frontend structure was established, the WordPress backend could drive it indefinitely — new posts, new portfolio items, new team members — without touching the Next.js code.
The in-house team could extend the site themselves if required. The static output could be deployed to any CDN or hosting environment. And the performance characteristics of a statically generated site — especially for an agency selling digital excellence — were simply better than any server-rendered alternative.
GraphQL gave us the query precision to keep the build fast even as the content library grew. Related blog posts, portfolio items, animated hero units — each pulling exactly what it needed from WordPress, nothing more.
